Improve Worker Safety With Switched and Interlocked Receptacles

Portable equipment provides flexibility to improve plant floor efficiency. One challenge, particularly with motor-driven equipment in wet operating environments, is the risk of an electrical arc if an operator disconnects a machine under load. MENNEKES switched and interlocked receptacles prevent this outcome. Here's how:

Each receptacle unit has a horsepower (HP)-rated ON/OFF switch, coupled with a mechanical interlock mechanism, ensuring a safe way to plug and unplug equipment. Facilitating worker compliance, the easy-to-use handle enhances workplace safety since the switch can't be turned ON unless the plug is fully inserted. Conversely, operators can't remove the plug unless the handle is turned OFF. In addition, the handle is padlockable to comply with OSHA Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) requirements if the receptacle is removed from service.

Available with 20A, 30A, 60A and 100A receptacles, MENNEKES interlock units are compatible with other manufacturers' like-rated IEC 60309 plugs. Assemblies are offered in stainless steel (20A and 30A only) or nonmetallic enclosures, and they have a Type 4X; 12 environmental rating. Each unit also has a non-fusible switch or UL 98 fusible switch, factory-wired to the receptacle. With AMAXX® assemblies, you can combine multiple receptacles with overload capability if power is from a common supply, and there is the option to add convenience outlets.

Many manufacturing environments require auxiliary plug-in equipment for packaging needs, equipment sanitation, line changes or maintenance utility power. Using MENNEKES switched and interlocked receptacles provides the flexibility you desire while enhancing worker safety.
